    Are you Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech looking for an overnight position to show your compassion for animals and still be able to spend your daylight hours on the beach or enjoying other activities during the day? You will be providing emergency care as well as ongoing care of post surgical cases.     Veterinary Referral Hospital of Hickory is looking for a registered veterinary technician or experienced veterinary assistant to work in our emergency department. Duties will include client communication, patient care, laboratory testing, radiology, anesthesia, surgical assistance, and variety of other general technical duties. The successful candidate must be proficient in clinical laboratory procedures, medication calculations and administration, IV catheter placement, vital sign monitoring, client communications, compassionate animal restraint, physical assessments, radiographic techniques and venipuncture. Two or more years of experience in veterinary medicine performing the duties of this position are required. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds (work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals – with assistance from other staff members for animals weighing over 50 pounds), ability to walk or stand for 10 to 12 hours (or longer shifts, as needed); frequently working in a bent position, ability to handle stressful situations, ability to complete assigned tasks, even if extended work hours are required in order to do so.
